For this, it is important to understand that blood pressure rises during pregnancy. Symptoms to watch out for during pregnancy are as follows:
- Sudden swelling (edema), especially in the face and hands
- Rapid weight gain (normally 1-1.5 kilos per month is ideal, 3-4 kilos or more weight gain)
- Severe headache (especially near the neck)
- Vision changes such as temporary vision loss, blurred vision, flashes of light, increased sensitivity to light
- Increasingly increasing upper abdominal pain under the ribs, usually on the right side
- Especially in the 4-5th week of pregnancy. nausea or vomiting that occurs after a month
- Shortness of breath due to fluid in the lungs
Since some of these findings will occur only in normal pregnancy, it is important to have several of these findings together and to measure the high blood pressure (blood pressure) to be measured from time to time or when these findings occur, especially in the 20th week of pregnancy. In this case, it would be appropriate to consult a specialist doctor as soon as possible and be examined.
Patients who have a family history of high blood pressure, who have experienced a similar situation in their previous pregnancy, who have weight problems (obesity), and who have twin pregnancies should be more careful. In order to reduce the risks in this regard, weight and blood pressure monitoring during pregnancy, eating an adequate and balanced diet without salt, low in carbohydrates, rich in protein, especially vegetables, meat, dairy products, legumes, not being tired and sleepless, not smoking, stress control, doing exercises suitable for pregnancy, monthly In a risky situation, it is important to provide regular controls every 2 weeks according to the advice of the specialist.
